Copyright & Takedowns

Last updated October 14, 2026

If a photo or piece of writing on a Kept page is yours and was added without your permission, here’s how to have it taken down.

Photos you didn’t take

Friends and family add the photos they have, and sometimes those belong to someone else, like the photographer who took them. If something of yours is on a Kept page without your permission, we’ll take it down.

The quickest way

If you know the family, ask them. They can remove anything on their page right away, from their admin area.

Sending us a takedown notice

Otherwise, send a notice to our designated agent, below. Memorial pages are private, so describe where the item is as clearly as you can. Your notice needs to include:

  1. what the work is, such as a photo you took;
  2. where it is on Kept: the page’s address, and which photo or memory, with a screenshot or description if you can;
  3. your name, address, phone number and email;
  4. a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized by you, your agent or the law;
  5. a statement that the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the work or are authorized to act for its owner;
  6. your signature. A typed name is fine.

What happens next

We’ll remove the item or hide it from the page promptly, and let the family know. Guests add things without an account, so we may not be able to reach the person who added it.

If something of yours was taken down

If you added something that was taken down and believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same agent. It needs to include:

  1. what was removed, and where it was;
  2. a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentified;
  3. your name, address and phone number;
  4. a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district (or, outside the United States, any district where Kept may be found), and will accept service from the person who sent the notice;
  5. your signature. A typed name is fine.

We’ll pass it on to the person who sent the notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they’ve gone to court, we may put the item back after 10 to 14 business days.

Repeat infringement

We’ll stop serving anyone who repeatedly adds work that isn’t theirs to share.
